As many of you know, I love talking about movies, building lists, and arguing about rankings (my letterboxed profile can vouch for that). But there's one specific thing I could never quite do anywhere else: pick a pool of movies, pit them directly head-to-head—in classic "you can only take one to a deserted island" fashion—and let the matchups generate an accurate personal rank.
Since I couldn't find a tool that did this the way I wanted, I decided to build it.
MovieRanker lets you assemble any collection of films, runs them through algorithmic 1v1 matchups, and saves the final result into clean, shareable ranking cards.
Beyond custom ranked lists, there are a few built-in perks
- The Weekly Marquee: A rotating, curated set of films centered around a hidden thematic puzzle
- Head-to-Head Consensus: Compare your personal match results against how the rest of the community voted.
- (Optional) Customizable Public Profiles: Optional public profiles to showcase your lists and achievements

A Quick Note on How This Was Built
As I mentioned on the site, I leveraged AI pairing throughout the development process—using LLMs to assist with the implementation details while I guided the architecture, UX, and product specifications. Building with these tools makes solo software experiments incredibly fast and rewarding.
